We C You 15: PRO haircut tips

Hair is personal, so that nervous feeling your client might feel before their next cut is totally understandable. To make the most of their visit (and avoid any mishaps) here are my tips for delivering their best cut.

We C You 15: PRO haircut tips

connect with clients

Potential clients might scout for stylists on social media or get recommendations from friends with similar hair textures. Be sure to advertise yourself as a PRO that has experience cutting and styling various curl patterns. This helps people know what your expertise looks like—and gives inspiration for the next appointment.

consultation time

Once you’ve connected with a client, take time to help them reflect on their current crown, and where they want it to be. This is your time to talk through any questions, goals, and expectations.

Here are some questions I go over with my clients:

  1. What kind of look are you going for? Got inspiration pics?

  2. What’s the general state of your hair? Dry, buildup, damaged, shedding?

  3. What’s your current routine?

  4. What’s your lifestyle like? Do you work out? Need an easy-to-rock look?

  5. How to prep before your appointment. Come clean? Natural? Pre-stretched?

  6. Any preferences for our session? Quiet? Gentle? Short on time?

  7. Any questions you have for me?

We’re all here for the same end goal (great hair), so this will get you and your client on the same page!

provide a safe space

Create the kind of space where your clients feel empowered to speak up. Instead of guessing, they’ll speak up if you're pulling a little too tightly or going in a direction they’re not comfortable with. Having a confidence-boosting experience is so worth it for everyone involved.

Healthy hair is born in your hands, so offer your expertise to perfect your client’s look during their appointment, and at home. Whether that’s recommending products, or offering how to DIY this style, your help will go the extra mile.

If your client is in the market, ask them about any add-on treatments or services they might be interested in. Maybe molecular repair or a chelating treatment are the keys to making thier inspo pics a reality.
